Snowball is a program of video works by local and international artists. These videos are brought together under the theme of landscape, and the myriad of possibilities of the term.
Uncovering the term "landscape" in art and cinema, mapping our social engagements, and challenging our notions of frontiers are some of the territories explored in the program. The screening will be in the articule courtyard, which will be transformed into a theatre with benches of snow and surrounded by pine trees. The screening will be accompanied with the launch of a small publication. Artists working in the moving image were invited to contribute the publication and reveal the "hidden" side of their practices and join other artists working with image and writing to further explore their research.
There will be hot chocolate to keep warm!

Alain Lefebvre
How Can I Tell the Difference? is a thirty-minute experiment that delves into a synaesthetic world of analog noise, and also considers the in/compatibility of audio signals with those of video. Alain Lefebvre has chosen to subvert his own preoccupation with the deadlock dialectics of spectacle and transgression, abstraction and representation by employing a strategy, where his attention is shifted to actions rather than the sounds resulting from those actions. An unpredictable electronic clamor will emerge out of this process. Inevitably punctuated with many uncomfortable silences, but always coming back to the harsh noise, the disruptive, the sublime.

Recent works created by artists from Quebec and Canada screened.
Since 1991, GIV has shaped a unique viewing experience at Théâtre de Verdure. Vidéos de femmes dans le parc (VFP) is an exhibition of short, recent video works. For the 18th year in a row, the public is invited to VFP, a vital artistic event that fuses the independent spirit of art videos to the unique viewing experience of drive-in cinemas (without the cars.) In the years that GIV has presented VFP, we have shown over 200 independent videos to approximately 15,000 people.
This year’s program features seventeen videos with wit and style exploring memory, movement, performance and new approaches to narrative. Featuring works that are funny, troubling, mysterious and meditative, the 2009 program is about discovery and showcases several premieres.
Founded in 1975, Groupe Intervention Vidéo (GIV) is an artist-run non-profit centre that distributes, exhibits and produces videos and multimedia projects created by women. Our collection is made up of over 800 titles and we represent 285 artists. GIV presents approximately 12 programming events a year. These include artist talks, VFP, Topovidéographies and La voûte.
